Who looks after your data
Maktoob Publishing LLC, 14 Makram Ebeid St, Nasr City, Cairo, Egypt, decides how your data is used and is responsible for it. Questions about your data go to help@maktoob.example.
What we keep
- Your phone number: it is your account, and how we send sign-in codes and order updates.
- Your name, if you give it, and delivery addresses you save.
- Orders, purchases and invoices: what you bought, when, the amount and how you paid. For cards we keep only the brand and the last four digits.
- Your reading: your place in each book, highlights, notes, bookmarks and ratings, so they follow you between devices.
- Devices that hold downloaded books, with a name you can recognise, so we can keep to the 5-device limit.
- Messages you send our team, and your cookie choice.
We never see or keep your full card number or security code. If you save a card, our payment provider stores it.
Why we use it
To sell and deliver what you order, keep your library and reading in sync, send updates about your orders, Plus and gifts, keep tax records, and stop fraud. We send other messages, like tomorrow’s book on WhatsApp, only when you ask for them, and every one of them tells you how to stop.
How long we keep it
- Your account, library and reading: until you delete your account.
- Orders and invoices: as long as tax law requires (5 years in Egypt, 6 in Saudi Arabia), even after you delete your account.
- Messages with our team: 2 years after the conversation ends.
- Your cookie choice: 12 months, then we ask again.
See it, take it, delete it
You can see and correct your details in Account at any time. In Account › Privacy you can download everything we keep about you as a file, or delete your account.
Deleting is final after 14 days. Until then, sign in to cancel it. After 14 days your account, library and reading are erased; we keep only the invoices tax law requires. You can also ask us to stop using your data for a purpose, or object to it, by writing to us. We answer within 30 days.
The law, and complaints
In Egypt we follow the Personal Data Protection Law (No. 151 of 2020). In Saudi Arabia we follow the Personal Data Protection Law and its regulations. If you’re unhappy with how we’ve handled your data, tell us first. You can also complain to Egypt’s Personal Data Protection Centre or, in Saudi Arabia, to the Saudi Data and AI Authority (SDAIA).
